The Fabric of the PiazzaSculptural materials and forms: this is the design concept MMA Project has chosen for the ITA Pavilion at the 2026 edition of Downtown Design Dubai, which opened today. Curated by the Emirati studio Dynamic Design (founded and run by Marco Mangili), MMA Project’s The Fabric of the Piazza marks a decisive departure from the design approach adopted in previous years. While retaining clear references to Italian identity, the project explores spaces, materials, colours and pathways in a way that evokes a museum rather than a trade fair.
The Fabric of the Piazza (3)The Fabric of the Piazza brings together 18 Italian companies, each with a diverse range of products and expertise. Eighteen companies mean eighteen different design languages: from surfaces to ceramics, stone to glass, furniture to lighting, as well as textiles and accessories. A plurality of creative vocabularies that MMA Project brings together within a single, elegant and distinctive architectural framework.
The Fabric of the Piazza (5)With The Fabric of the Piazza, MMA Project reinterprets the archetypes of Italian architecture, stripping them of any sense of banality and avoiding predictable solutions in its spatial composition. An abstract language conveys memory through architecture, while a walk through the ITA Pavilion, as conceived here, unfolds as a seamless sequence of perspectives: a compelling narrative of urban imagery that resonates with our collective memory.
