Luxury retail is increasingly becoming a platform for artistic expression, and Jimmy Choo’s newly redesigned boutique at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai is a reflection of this evolution. At the heart of the space is a commission by Lebanese architect and maker Shaha Raphael, whose sculptural creations bring a distinct artistic narrative to the British luxury house. Unveiled on October 8, the boutique introduces a contemporary interior concept by Nebihe Cihan Studio, where sculptural lines, tactile surfaces and rich, luminous tones create a dialogue between fashion, collectible design and craftsmanship. Yet it is Raphael’s bespoke artworks that give the space a particularly meaningful dimension, connecting the house’s heritage with the region’s cultural relationship to precious materials.

The commission draws inspiration from Jimmy Choo’s limited-edition Pearls of Wisdom capsule collection, launched in October to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary. Taking the pearl, traditionally associated with a 30th wedding anniversary, as its starting point, Raphael explores its symbolic significance within the region, translating ideas of nature, transformation and preciousness into sculptural forms. Her contribution includes marble Ammonite stone plinths and sculptural Claw side tables, each examining the relationship between material and form. Fluid surfaces, fossil-like textures and radiant finishes introduce an organic quality to the works, allowing the natural characteristics of the materials to become an essential part of their visual language. Rather than serving as decorative additions, Raphael’s pieces form an integral part of the boutique’s identity. Their sculptural presence creates a conversation between contemporary collectible design and the artisanal traditions that have long defined luxury craftsmanship.

The collaboration also highlights the growing presence of regional creative talent within international luxury environments, where artists and designers are increasingly invited to contribute beyond conventional product collaborations. The boutique’s reopening was marked by an exclusive event featuring Raphael in conversation with Natasha Carella, Director of Dubai Design Week. The discussion explored the commission and the creative process behind the individual pieces, offering insight into the intersection of art, design and craft. For Jimmy Choo, the redesigned boutique signals a retail experience that extends beyond fashion. For Raphael, it offers a platform where architectural thinking, sculptural experimentation and material craftsmanship meet, transforming a luxury boutique into a space for contemporary artistic expression.
