Light, colour, movement. Preciosa weaves these elements together to create luminous works that transcend mere functionality and transform into immersive experiences, leaving a lasting emotional impact and creating lasting memories. In these settings, lighting design becomes poetry, touching even the most sensory aspects by harnessing light’s power to shape spaces, interact with glass and generate vibrations in the air, creating moods and atmospheres. This imaginative quality is evident in the brand’s new installation, Drifting Lights, set to be the highlight of Milan Design Week 2026.
Preciosa is showcasing its latest Signature Design at the Tempesta Gallery, located at 68 Foro Buonaparte, with a large-scale, site-specific installation. This composition features Preciosa’s exclusive 3D lighting effect, through which light flows, changing shape and colour. Visitors are invited to walk through the installation and interact with the light itself and its shifting dynamics. Set within a 30-square-metre space, the installation consists of 60 glass panels suspended vertically and horizontally to form a structure measuring 8.7 x 3.2 x 3 metres.
Each panel is shaped like a petal suspended in the air and features an oblong or square design enclosed by an L-shaped stainless steel profile that discreetly integrates an LED strip. The handcrafted glass is shaped to encapsulate countless tiny air bubbles within the material. When light passes through the structure and diffuses into the glass, it takes on a fluid quality and illuminates the bubbles as if they were suspended constellations.
Inside the gallery, light flows from one panel to another, evolving in form and colour in unexpected and ever-changing ways. Colour is, in fact, part of the experience: “As they move through the space, visitors are accompanied by a silent choreography,” the company explains. “The transitions from red to pink to green outline a subtle emotional narrative, evoking love, passion and inner peace.”
The installation was created by Preciosa’s Co-Creative Directors, Michael Vasku and Andreas Klug. Their goal was to encourage visitors to take their time and enjoy the space, providing an opportunity for reflection amidst the hectic pace of Design Week. “In the heart of Brera, our installation aims to capture the energy of Milan while providing a space where visitors can slow down and be surprised.”
The Drifting Lights Signature Design lends its name to the exhibition project and arrives in Milan following its November debut in Downtown Dubai. It has already been incorporated into high-end residential projects in Prague and Switzerland. The collection is fully customisable with ten sizes available and a choice of finishes and panel orientations.
Furthermore, the glass panels, which is already characterised by micro air bubbles, can be further enhanced with Preciosa’s Fused Veil motif to direct light in specific directions, or even incorporates a sophisticated artistic technique that enables pigment particles to vibrate within the material, capturing and amplifying the light that passes through it.
