Walls as canvases

They become windows for journeys in faraway places, to discover works of art, or to be surrounded by nature: wallcoverings, with their decorative textures, transport us into worlds to explore

Paper, fabrics, vinyl materials free of PVC, non-woven fabrics: many supports can be utilized as wallcoverings. This range of alternatives is joined by prints, textures, 3D effects, decorations and patterns that create a variegated, colorful universe, where aesthetics meets technology to create comfortable, safe and protected spaces, also thanks to sound-absorbing and antibacterial qualities of certain materials.

Wallpaper becomes a work of art thanks to Gio Bressana, who for Inkiostro Bianco has created the new Reminiscenze collection. The artist continues to explore non-places, with names chosen for the decorations taken from the Etruscan tradition, mysterious and full of links to nature. The new wallpapers transport us into an almost mystical middle world, where architecture and landscape narrate a glorious past.

Lelièvre Paris presents Paysage, a reinterpretation of the Altitudine fabric. This elegant wallpaper is based on the profiles of the mountains of the great north, facing deep fjords and chilly winter scenes. Available in two color variants, Glacier and Crépuscule, with a structure that suggests the pattern of a weave, thanks to digital printing technology on embossed vinyl, for results of exceptional impact.

Essential Wallpaper 2021 is the collection by Wall&decò with five new patterns, conveying a pronounced 3D image on prints skillfully finished by hand, to enhance the coloring and the natural effects. Hikari, created by Studiopepe, takes its cue from traditional Japanese techniques: a sheet of paper, a two-dimensional surface, comes alive through the 3D effect of folding.

As for geometry, the designs of the first wallpaper collection by Antoniolupi, christened Tralerighe, have been developed by Gumdesign based on a mathematical algorithm: horizontal, vertical and oblique lines intersect as if they were alive and in constant motion, establishing a mutual dialogue in such a way that the optical result is not enclosed in a preset graphic framework, but opens up to form the space.

All the wallpapers of the capsule collection The Daydreamer designed by GIOPAGANI for Londonart are enhanced by seductive textures that create a three-dimensional illusion and stimulate new perception of spaces. Very evocative backgrounds, where the macro-decoration is the protagonist, to transform spaces of life into theatrical backdrops with precious designs, waves of color, flowers and patterns similar to fine fabrics.

WP/Acoustic, the sound-absorbing wallpaper by WallPepper®/Group, has now become antibacterial as well. WP/Acoustic is a sound-absorbing and soundproofing system to improve acoustic wellbeing in various contexts. It is made with special technical sheets in woven fiberglass, with a thickness of just 3 mm, coated with a transparent matte layer of protection. Wallsilk®Antibatterico is a bicomponent formula that stops the spread of bacteria. It can be applied to already installed surfaces.

Jannelli&Volpi presents JV800 Tierra, the new totally eco-sustainable collection that conserves the aesthetic qualities, embossing and strength of vinyl products, but without using PVC. A true novelty in the wallcovering sector, for which the trademark EcoTechWall has been created. JV800 Tierra features graphic designs inspired by nature, where cacti and chameleons happily flourish, while oases with palm trees and water form a mirage.

Poseidon by Pierre Frey offers a design of mermaids and explores the dreamy world of the sea and its divinities. This wallcovering in non-woven fabric is printed with a traditional technique for a handpainted effect, reproducing a tempera drawing by the designer Irène Rohr from 1945, with a motif conserved in the company’s archives.

Fabrics are no less involved in the wave of creativity and quality. With Archiutopia, Studiopepe has crossed its conceptual approach with the know-how of the manufacturer Élitis. Together they have entered a field in which creations explore the tactile languages of a visionary architecture. The three-dimensional fabric accentuates sensorial perception. The names of the patterns come from those of the Invisible Cities of Italo Calvino.

Dedar produces ViridianaWall, a fabric bonded with TNT for wallcoverings, in a silk moiré in a free pattern, differing in its design from meter to meter as a result of manual workmanship. The mutable colors and unpredictable effects suggest the magic of nature.
