During the Milano Design Week, Henge, an Italian furniture company known for its constant research into precious materials and constant innovation in design, presented the result of its collaboration with Venini, a great name in glass art: the Floyd Series, a collection of lamps designed by Ugo Cacciatori.
Born in Carrara into a family with close ties to marble and its working, Cacciatori studied architecture in Florence, where he developed a deep understanding of shapes and materials. He began his career in fashion, working with prestigious brands such as Valentino, Romeo Gigli and Alessandro Dell’Acqua. However, it is in the field of jewellery and furniture design that Cacciatori has found his true vocation. The Floyd Series consists of four models (pendant, wall lamp, floor lamp with stone base and floor lamp with metal base), which are the result of the repetition of a glass module, obtained using the “double expansion” technique, fixed on a metal body where the light source is housed.
The modules are superimposed and juxtaposed, giving rise to various conformations that recall a very famous Venini project: Carlo Scarpa’s Poliedri, an example of modular design capable of producing results of great scenic impact. Each piece in the Floyd series is both a luminaire and a demonstration of the possibilities that arise when modern design meets centuries-old craftsmanship, reflecting a virtuous balance between innovation and tradition.
