Night complements

Co-protagonists of the bedroom, versatile decor complements put design, functional quality and creativity on stage

We’re talking about carpets, benches, screens, lamps, ottomans and bedside tables: little works of architecture that dress up the bedroom and enhance it, at times bordering space or adding rhythm to it, creating imaginative (and functional) configurations.

Baxter presents Mr Hide (on cover), a screen designed by Studiopepe with a linear structure, almost a small work of architecture that borders and frames a space. The papercord and leather bands placed at different heights create a motif like folk art, revisited in a contemporary way.

Stami, designed by Studiopepe, this time for Gallotti&Radice, is a bedside unit with a drawer, a base in black stained curved ash wood and details in polished brass; the covering is in leather or suede, while the top folds open to offer an internal compartment with a leather surface, coordinated with the outer finishing.

Baco by Andrea Parisio for Meridiani, on the other hand, is a system of poufs with different shapes, to be composed according to one’s personality. They are small, versatile pieces of furniture, able to create different configurations and change them each time through simple movements, thanks to the fixing with magnets.

The Swiss company USM Modular Furniture also displays its potential in the night zone. The USM Haller furnishing systems are available in 14 colors and many configurations, to create bedside tables, shelves, bookcases and storage units.

The new Gruppo Notte CROSS by Riflessi (designed by Riflessi Lab) is composed of dressers and bedside tables in solid wood with ceramic tops. The wood wraps the sides and fronts with drawers in a single embrace, forming all the elements in continuity with the purity of the volume. The top, enclosed in the structure, creates a refined contrast of materials.

For spaces with a “rock’n’roll spirit,” the Morne bedside unit by Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors is made in glossy gray Carbalho. This precious wood has special grain that resembles the patterns of snakeskin, and is combined with a python texture.

The world of decoration also takes part in the creation of comfortable, enveloping bedroom zones. As in the case of the Memento carpet, part of the Design Collection of Illulian: carded and spun by hand, it is made in Himalayan wool and pure silk – also to measure.

Warm diffused lighting also plays a key role. Ferruccio Laviani adds a new creation to the lighting division of Kartell with Teresa, a lamp with ample forms that seems to open its petals in an engaging game of lights. Another step in the experimentation with new design ideas and techniques of industrial molding that make it possible to obtain curves and surprising volumes.

Attractive, conceptual and unconventional: it’s No Vanitas, the new mirror designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina. Composed of a poured glass murrina bordered by a contrasting glass cordon, it reprises the same characteristic detail found in the Sestiere vases by the same designer. Each murrina, rendered unique by the hammering of the surface, is made by hand by skilled artisans. The “morisa,” the glass cord typical of the Murano tradition, is applied by hand on the border of the murrina. An LED lamp can be added to the back of the object.
