Homo Faber 2024

Venice is preparing to welcome “Homo Faber. The Journey of Life,” the third edition of the international event dedicated to contemporary craftsmanship of excellence. From September 1st to 30th, 2024

The evocative setting of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore will be transformed into a vibrant stage for creativity, mastery, and passion. Organized by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, in collaboration with the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte and the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Homo Faber 2024 promises to be a multifaceted experience, a fascinating journey through the different phases of human life, narrated through the beauty and value of craftsmanship.

The press conference held on Thursday, May 23rd at the Swiss Center in Milan unveiled the details of this extraordinary edition. Consul General Stefano Lazzarotto opened the meeting by emphasizing the strong ties between the Swiss Consulate and initiatives promoting craftsmanship. Alberto Cavalli, Executive Director of the Michelangelo Foundation, explained the choice of the Fondazione Cini as the venue, calling it “an alchemical forge where the liturgies of culture, research, and art are celebrated every day.”

Guiding visitors on this exciting journey will be artistic directors Luca Guadagnino, the renowned film director, and architect Nicolò Rosmarini.  Inspired by the theme “The Journey of Life,” conceived by Hanneli Rupert, Vice President of the Michelangelo Foundation, Guadagnino and Rosmarini have envisioned an immersive exhibition that unfolds through the monumental spaces of the Fondazione Cini. Hundreds of unique objects, crafted by talented artisans from around the world, will accompany the public on an exploration of the fundamental stages of human existence: from childhood to journeys, from love stories to dreams, each phase of life will be told through the mastery of craftsmanship.

Homo Faber 2024 will not be limited to a simple exhibition. As Alberto Cavalli emphasized during the press conference, the event will also be an opportunity to discover the beating heart of Venetian craftsmanship. The ateliers of Venetian artisans will open their doors to the public, offering a close-up look at their art.

Beyond the walls of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the Homo Faber in Città program will invite visitors to discover unusual itineraries that wind through the workshops of Venetian artisans. Particular attention will be paid to artisans who, although not born in Venice, have chosen the city as their home and workplace, demonstrating its timeless charm and ability to attract talents from around the world. There will also be a focus on responsible craftsmanship, promoting a responsible and environmentally friendly approach. Lastly, a special section entitled “Venetians Traditions & Young Generations” will present the profiles of young Venetian artisans who, with passion and dedication, carry on the ancient craft traditions of the lagoon city, ensuring the continuity of a priceless cultural heritage.
