The theme of this edition, the “Unlimited Design Orchestra“, draws its inspiration from music and the elements of an orchestra, with the aim of emphasizing design focused increasingly on an intrinsically human dimension. The concept aligns with the goal of finding in design and the universality of artistic language a space where humans can genuinely meet and dialogue. This year, in addition to highlighting cultural diversity, material sustainability, and the intelligent use of new technologies, the importance of bringing back to the forefront values such as respect, tolerance, and mutual love are underscored.
The 5Vie returns to the stage this year with its eleventh edition, in the historic Milanese quarter from which it draws its name. This year’s edition will add new traditional locations, including Palazzo Litta, which will host works of art by designers from all over the world. The novelties of the 5VIE Design Week 2024 are concentrated between Corso Magenta, Sant’Ambrogio and the Columns of San Lorenzo, offering a range of proposals such as the “supermarket” Indian of Gunjan Gupta, and the oasis of peace and meditation of Sara Ricciardi.

In this edition, you will find signature and collection design, high craftsmanship, and experiments between art and design. This edition, with a total of 75 organized events, Eight significant exhibitions will be hosted, curated, and produced by 5Vie, the group led by Ernesta Del Cogliano, and Emanuele Tessarolo.
Highlights include the “Indian tiny mega-store” of Gunjan Gupta, which will transport visitors to a typical miniature Indian supermarket. Gupta’s design characterizes itself for the attention to the ingenuity and potential of his native country, India, reflected in unique collectible pieces. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in an exquisitely Indian atmosphere, with engaging music, spicy flavors, changing colors, and oriental scents.
The installation of Sara Ricciardi, “Under the willow tree,” is composed of curved willow branches that produce acoustic vibrations. Jay Sae Jung Oh, a Korean designer based in Seattle, presents “Salvage,” a series of unique pieces of art made from recovering abandoned objects. Among them, a unique piece of furniture encapsulating her precise vision and artisanal skill.

Other must-see exhibitions at Palazzo Litta will be “Take and eat“, curated by Linda Pilar Zanolla, an investigation into the idea of sharing and human connections through the table; “Omi Iyọ” by Nifemi Marcus-Bello, a work that reflects on the dramatic journeys of migrants. In the exhibition “Shadows&poems,” curated by Mr.Lawrence, the work of creative artists Eliurpi, Elisabet Urpí, and Nacho Umpiérrez is highlighted who use traditional hat-making techniques to create Spanish hats, creating their universe from a simple straw strand. The site-specific installation inside the boudoir of Palazzo Litta, decorated in baroque style, will showcase a series of original lamps, designed specifically for the occasion. These will be joined by a surprising element with a background function, designed to dialogue with the human volume to reach architectural proportions.

“Natural selection” by Kostas Lambridis is the result of an artistic residence in Turin; finally, “La Quinta Via” is a metaverse of 5Vie that offers a 3D exhibition of the works of designers and artists from different parts of the world. A mixture of art, design, and handicraft sets out to produce ‘music’ that resonates with the entire community, breaking down cultural barriers and challenging stereotypes.
