With over 1,100 participants, including works of architecture and products selected by a jury composed of Ari Kastrati/MGM Resorts International, Larry Traxler/Hilton, Dionne Jefferson/Marriott, Stefano Giussani/Lissoni New York, just to name some of the members, the 2022 edition of the Hospitality Design Awards, organized by the magazine of the same name, culminated in the announcement on 7 June of the winners, during an exclusive evening event.
The awards are subdivided into categories, and every year they indicate not only the best hotels, resorts, suites, restaurants and works of sustainable architecture, but also the most innovative products in the areas of lighting, décor, outdoor furnishings and claddings.
Royal Senses Resort & Spa Crete Curio Collection by Hilton
Best in Show was the Royal Senses Resort & Spa Crete Curio Collection by Hilton in Greece – also chosen as the best hotel in the category Upscale Hotel Public Space – and the Olio Armchair by Australia’s DesignByThem, selected as the best seating.
Habitas Al-’Ula
The best hotel in the Lifestyle category was the striking Habitas Al-’Ula in Saudi Arabia, while the Ace Hotel in Brooklyn took the prize for the design of its community areas. For those looking for wellness, the best spa is at the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, surrounded by the crystalline waters of the Fari Islands.
Graduate Roosevelt Island
In the Luxury segment the exclusive Borgo Santandrea set into the rock at Amalfi, with furnishings by Gio Ponti (in the Molteni&C catalogue), while the Luxury Public Space award went to the refined The Dubai EDITION. Ex-aequo kudos in the Upscale Hotel category went to Saint Vincent in New Orleans and the Hilton Changsha Riverside in China, while in the Midscale Hotel section another New York location took first place: the eclectic Graduate Roosevelt Island.
One&Only Mandarina
The best Guestroom is at the Four Seasons Hotel in New Orleans; the most exclusive suites are at the Royal Senses Resort & Spa Crete, Curio Collection by Hilton and at the green o in Greenough, Montana. The most sophisticated resorts are in Mexico – One&Only Mandarina, Riviera Nayarit – and in Israel, in the Negev desert, with the charm of Six Senses Shaharut.
Hotel Terrestre
The first ‘nomadic hotel’ opened in the charming setting of the Hudson Valley in New York – Moliving – was selected as a New Brand Launch, while the RAAS Chhatrasagar of Rajasthan, India took the Lodges + Camps category, and the Hotel Terrestre in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, was honored for its focus on environmental sustainability.
The best restaurants, clubs and event spaces are ARGO in Hong Kong, Klein JAN at Van Zylsrus in South Africa, Silver Lyan in Washington DC, and the Rosebrook Lodge at Bretton Woods in New Hampshire.
Olio Armchair by DesignByThem
For product design, the Olio Armchair by DesignByThem was picked as Best in Show and winner of the Seating category, while the Lazy Chair XXL of The Fillup Club took the outdoor seating section. For Sustainable Solutions, the winner was the Elements line by NuWud, based on engineering research to create sustainable, durable wooden floors, reutilizing the roots and resin of trees.
