Feel the Beat

With the Beat modular bookcase, i 4 Mariani breaks with the traditional storage formula, playing with graphic effects and combinations of materials

Vertical, horizontal or angled, parallel or out of alignment. It is impossible to classify the modules of the Beat bookcase, since they are left free to interact in new compositions, adapting to a wide range of functions.

Creating this original bookcase concept for i 4 Mariani, designer Alessandro Dubini has opted for a solution that breaks up the monotony of wall systems, bringing aesthetic and compositional variety. The result is also summed up in the name “Beat”: the lively, irregular rhythm of the vertical elements – ready to expand into space like a vivacious melody – is based on the alternation of inter-assembled modules of different sizes (in height and width). The dynamism is accentuated by elegant cowhide containers that generate a game of full and empty zones.

Aesthetic research is accompanied by a careful selection of materials – in keeping with the company’s DNA, specialized for over 60 years in fine craftsmanship carried out in-house, like nearly all of the production. Beat is made in oak, with three available finishes: blanched, gray stained and dark brown stained. The backs of some of the compartments can be covered in cowhide, a detail that brings further tactile and visual refinement; the material establishes a perfect dialogue with the storage units, creating aesthetic uniformity.

Everything contributes to make this modular bookcase into a forceful presence, along with the choice of the thickness of the panels, at 20mm, adding remarkable structural solidity.

In line with all of the company’s production, Beat has a versatile identity, on the borderline between residence and office: by nature, it can fit into living areas or office facilities, reflecting more classic tastes or a modern, contemporary style. The crossover design approach of i 4 Mariani meets the needs of the home office as well – a key factor in today’s residences – formulating workspaces with an enveloping domestic atmosphere, while adding exceptional refinement to any living space.
