A voyage to discover the contemporary Middle East, projected into the future but without forgetting a glorious past. From 11 to 16 November, Dubai Design Week 2019 offers six days with over 200 events, exhibitions, talks and workshops, attracting an audience of designers, students, entrepreneurs and lovers of design, architecture and interior decorating to the United Arab Emirates.
In its debut at Dubai Design Week, Turquoise Mountain, founded in 2006 to preserve historic communities and to support the rebirth and growth of crafts, presents the installation Kabul Old City – A Visual Journey, a multimedia experience of the charm and beauty of Murad Khani, the heart of the old city of Kabul, a project produced in collaboration with Iconem, a startup specializing in 3D digitalization of sites of cultural heritage threatened with extinction.

An imposing steel structure, combined with a gradient mesh which casts a unique shadow: this is the Audi Innovation Hub, a pavilion designed by Arab architect and designer Abdalla Almulla and inspired by Audi’s e-tron family of completely electric vehicles.

A recreational installation that is put together like a 3D puzzle. The Maze, a project by the Nyxo studio, is made up of a series of modular panels with an iridescent surface. Visitors can change its configuration by rotating the mobile, mirrored, and voluptuously shaped plates.

The entrance to the Dubai Design District is indicated by Umbra, a gateway conceived by the Tinkah Studio and created using the wooden materials of the Spanish company Finsa. The installation reinterprets the Mashrabiya, the traditional middle Eastern windows decorated with geometric holes which make it possible to look through without being seen.

It is entitled “Barjeel” and both its name and shape recall the wind towers used in the Emirates to capture air and cool interior spaces. The installation by Mas Architecture Studio takes advantage of passive ventilation to obtain the same effect, creating a resting spot for visitors.

On occasion of Dubai Design Week, the Molteni Group will open its first flagship store in the region. Vivente will open its doors on 11 November, a familiar space in which to discover the latest Molteni&C furniture collections and Dada kitchens and have a first hand experience of Made in Italy quality.
