The 33rd edition of Proposte has drawn to a highly successful close. Every year, the event transforms the magnificent Villa Erba in Cernobbio into the global capital of high-end furnishing textiles. It is the essential appointment where an elite group of manufacturers of furnishing fabrics, curtains, and passementerie meets the world’s most important international buyers: textile editors, upholstered furniture producers, architects, and designers in search of excellence and innovation. It is a highly selective fair, where quality is the primary criterion for admission. The 2026 edition confirmed its success with solid numbers: over 2,500 buyers visited the fair, marking a 5% growth compared to the previous year. The origin of the visitors – with Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and France leading the way – underscores the event’s deeply international profile. But the true highlight of this year was the desire to go beyond simple business meetings and enrich the fair with experiential value.
This vision was brought to life through a prestigious collaboration with designer Cristina Celestino, who was invited to reimagine the common areas. Her intervention transformed a transitional space, the Ala Regina, into a destination in its own right. As Celestino herself explains, the goal was clear: “to work on the experiential side of the fair, which is no longer just a moment for business. We wanted to elevate the moment of meeting, exchange, and relaxation.”
The result was a grand lounge enveloped in an almost surreal atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from the colors of the lake, the designer chose a palette of blues that turned the space into a “very hushed container” of calm. This deliberate monochromatic choice was designed to offer a visual respite from the wealth of stimuli, patterns, and colors found in the stands. In this tranquil environment, the eye is naturally drawn to the large windows opening onto the gardens of Villa Erba, creating a seamless dialogue between inside and out.
The entrance corridor was transformed into a work of textile art. It was not a simple display of trends but, as Celestino emphasizes, “the creation of a landscape of textures and contrasting colors,” crafted from high-performance fire-retardant fabrics supplied by exhibiting companies. It was a powerful demonstration of how technology and aesthetics can coexist. This edition, with its “Heritage Forward” theme, proved that Italy’s great manufacturing tradition knows how to look to the future. Proposte 2026 was the confirmation that the world of textiles has become a complex ecosystem where design, research, and hospitality converge to create not just products, but genuine experiences.
