The Shakers, a world in the making, Vitra Design Museum - Weil am Rhein, GermanyHow can an 18th-century religious movement still inspire today’s designers and artists? The Shakers: a world in the making delves into the material and spiritual world of the Shakers, an American group known for their values of equality, community and labour as worship.
On view until 28 September, the exhibition features more than 150 historical works – mostly from the Shaker Museum in Chatham, New York – including furniture, tools, domestic objects and architecture, paired with new commissions by Christien Meindertsma, Amie Cunat, Finnegan Shannon and David Hartt.
