The Shakers: a world in the making
Over 150 works from one of the world’s major collections tell the story of the Shaker universe, featuring furniture, objects, architecture, and new commissions by contemporary artists and designers such as Christien Meindertsma and Amie Cunat

How can an 18th-century religious movement still inspire today’s designers and artists? The Shakers: a world in the making delves into the material and spiritual world of the Shakers, an American group known for their values of equality, community and labour as worship.

On view until 28 September, the exhibition features more than 150 historical works – mostly from the Shaker Museum in Chatham, New York – including furniture, tools, domestic objects and architecture, paired with new commissions by Christien Meindertsma, Amie Cunat, Finnegan Shannon and David Hartt.
